Abstract
In order to evaluate the antispasmodic effec of difemerine hydrochloride on colonoscopic examination, a comparative, randomized study of difemerine and saline as placebo was undertaken in 100 patients.
The results were as follows;
1) Time taken for sigmoidoscopic and colonoscopic examination was not shortened by premeditation of difererine hydrochloride.
2) Abdominal pain during examination was significantly relieved by premedication of difemerine hydrochloride.
3) Side effects were not noticed except dry mouth in 2 cases among 100 cases.
Above results suggest that difemerine can be used prophylacticaly for relief of pain induced by colonoscopic examination.
